Once Upon a Giraffe
By Nanditha Hegde
Once Upon a Giraffe
Gentle, glorious, glowing
Taller than towering skyscrapers in New York
As high as a thorny, green beanstalk
She is known as Harper
Unique, special, gifted
Chocolate eyes of innocence
Brown, and yellow dot art
Pure animal spirit alive under the African sun
Roaming freely abou the baked golden grass
Heavily consuming the deep, green acacia tree leaves
Cooling off from the murky watering hole
Watching the sapphire sky
An orange ball of fire shaped as a tangerine disappearing
An outer space facade awakened
Eyes as soft as velvet start to drearly shut
Silent, tired, fulfilled
